JFK Bomb Scare: Terminal 1 Evacuated Due To False Alarm

NEW YORK — A bomb scare that turned out to be a false alarm forced the evacuation of a terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport for two hours Sunday. John Kelly, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which manages the three main New York-area airports, said 250 to 300 passengers were evacuated from Terminal 1 at the airport around 6 p.m. and were allowed back in after 8 p.m.

JFK Airport Parking - Why Hotel Parking is Your Best Option - Associated Content

With over 20,000 JFK airport parking spaces available, it's inconceivable that many passengers still suffer delays and other inconveniences from being unable to find a good parking spot on time. Such mishaps get played out hundreds of times everyday owing, in part, to the sheer volume of people and vehicles coming to and leaving the airport at any given time. New York's Kennedy International Airport, after all, is the 12th busiest airport in the world. However, with a bit of planning and advanced booking, you could easily avoid these stressful situations. There are several JFK airport parking options to choose from when you're doing your trip planning: central airport parking, off-airport private garages, and hotel parking. In my opinion, the most economical and convenient option is hotel parking - the so-called 'sleep, park, and fly' alternative.

LAX Parking - How To Find The Best Parking Spot Minus The Stress and Hassle

Theme restaurant and control tower at LAX
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) restaurant and control tower.

LAX parking can be a problematic and stressful task for the unprepared traveler. In 2009, Los Angeles International Airport was ranked the 7th busiest airport in the world with over 56 million passengers passing through. Finding the ideal parking spot can be a challenge, particularly when the volume of passengers and traffic reach peak levels during the holidays. Thousands of people miss their flights or connections every year simply because they didn't find an available spot to park in, on time.

However, such nightmarish situations can be easily avoided - LAX parking need not be a difficult and unpredictable ordeal. By planning your trip and making a your parking arrangements long before the actual trip, such travel hassles will be a thing of the past for you. Here's how you can do it:

Familiarize yourself with layout of the airport. Which terminal will you be using? Los Angeles International Airport is a huge complex of facilities, covering over 3600 acres, it's easy to get lost in this veritable maze. LAX has 9 terminals (including the Tom Bradley International Terminal ) and different airlines are assigned to different terminals. Obviously, some LAX parking locations are more convenient than others when you factor in the terminal that you will be using. For example, parking structures 3 and 4 are closer to TBIT, while parking structure 1 would be your best option if you're flying Southwest or US Airways.

Book your parking in advance. If you want the most convenient spot to park in where you can just walk from your car to the terminal, then it's best to park at any of the 7 central parking structures located in the center of the airport complex or at the Park One Public Parking Facility just across the airport Skyway from terminal 1. A bit farther, along Sepulveda Boulevard is Airport Lot C for long-term public parking. If you're planning to use any of these facilities, call the airport or make a reservation online - trying to secure a parking space on the spot is one sure recipe for missed flight disasters. Convenience, however, comes at a premium - at $30 per day at the central parking area, it's quite expensive to park in these airport-owned facilities.

Use off-airport parking facilities. If you're looking for alternatives, there are several privately-owned garage facilities nearby offering LAX parking that may be more economical. These are located along Sepulveda, W Century, and along S La Cienega boulevards and are serviced by shuttle or are close to regular bus routes going to the airport. The service is generally excellent, the security arrangements top-notch, and the price significantly less than in the airport-owned facilities. Again, to avoid undue hassle, try to go online and check out these locations in advance. Compare prices, choose the best option, and make your reservation.

By coming prepared and planning the details of your trip in advance, including LAX parking arrangements, you can be assured of a smooth and stress-free departure from or arrival at Los Angeles airport.

LAX Parking - Where to Find the Best Parking Locations

Video tour of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

Oddly enough, while there are over 21,000 LAX parking spaces servicing the Los Angeles International Airport, hundreds of passengers everyday are still finding it difficult to find places to park that are both convenient and economical. Here are some places in and around LAX that you might want to look into next time you're looking for an airport parking spot.

Central Terminal Area Parking Structures. Obviously, the most convenient LAX parking locations are the ones at the Central Terminal Area Parking Structures where you can just walk to any of the terminals as soon as you've parked your vehicle. However, at the rate of $30 per day, most people on a budget would simply have to look elsewhere for more economical alternatives.

Remarkably, some people driving specific types of vehicles are free to park at the central parking structures. For those driving pure EVs (electric vehicles), parking is free near the charging stations at the lower/arrivals level of Parking Structures 1 and 6. That's one more incentive for you if you're planning to get that Tesla Roadster this year. Motorcycles are also free to park inside the Central Terminal Area parking structures.

Park One Public Parking. The next option is the Park One Public Parking along Century Boulevard and 96th Street, across Terminal 1. The rate is $15.95 daily for uncovered parking. This place is also operated by the airport authority and provides courtesy shuttle service to and from the terminals.

Economy Parking Lot C. Located along Sepulveda Blvd and W 96th St, Economy Parking Lot C is by far the best option for the traveler on a tight budget looking for convenient nearby LAX parking. Large and wide vehicles, like trucks, trailers and campers should use parking lot C. Daily rate is $12. Frequent free shuttle service to and from the Central Terminal Area is also available at Lot C.

Cell Phone Waiting Area. If you're waiting for a call upon arrival from someone you're picking up at the airport, there's a free parking available at the Cell Phone Waiting Lot located at 9011 Airport Boulevard, north of the intersection of Airport Boulevard and Arbor Vitae/Westchester Parkway. Unattended vehicles are not permitted inside the waiting lot.

Stay and park. Hotel parking is also an option for you. There are many great hotels to choose from, like Fourpoints Sheraton, Hilton, Holiday Inn, and La Quinta, to name a few. Check out the sites of each of these hotels and find the most convenient LAX parking packages - some of them offer extended parking for a one night stay. The Hilton, for example, currently has a published room rate of $184.00 USD for up to 2 people with 21 days of complimentary parking.

Private Garages. Off-airport private garage parking is also something you can definitely consider for your ideal LAX parking location. These places offer some of the most competitive long-term parking rates and also provide shuttle and valet service. Wally Park along Bellanca Ave, LAX Park Place, and Johnny Park along Hindry Ave are among the best options to choose from.

JFK Parking Made Easy: Review of the SmartPark JFK Mobile App

SmartPark JFK's app for parking reservation
SmartPark JFK's app for parking reservation

It used to be that passengers looking for parking coupons have to scour countless glossies and broadsheets to find the rare (but frequently measly) discount coupon. These days, passengers trying to find the best deals and reduced rates for parking at JFK Airport simply have to search the web for a few minutes, choose from the impressive line-up of parking options, and book their parking long before their scheduled flight.

With online connectivity, people now have the ability to choose the best parking at JFK Airport and to book that choice easily, in just a few minutes - no calls or legwork needed. Things couldn’t get any better than this, right? Wrong. The Smart JFK Parking app just raised the bar and made reserving parking online simpler and more convenient than ever before.

Developed by SmartPark JFK, a top-notch parking provider at Kennedy airport, the 'Smart' app allows travelers to login to the SmartPark mobile site and reserve JFK Airport parking even without access to a computer through their mobile phones only. Released last autumn, the Smart mobile app is shaping up to be an advanced customer assistance application targeted at time-bound city-dwellers.

"Today, more than ever, choices are plentiful but great service is not," quips Adam Smith, Director for Operations at SmartPark JFK. The Smart Park JFK mobile app "exemplifies SmartPark JFK’s broader commitment to the consumer, always thinking of ways to improve the customer’s experience."

JFK Parking Options on Squidoo

The main thing going for this app, of course, is the computer-less mobile reservation function. It also features on-site hosting which means that, unlike other travel apps, there’s no need to buy the app or to download it to your cell phone. Since it runs on SmartPark JFK's servers, it won't be eating up a lot of your cell's battery time.

The Smart app is extremely well-received among the most geeky 25-42 age bracket and also making inroads into the over 50 age groups. SmartPark JFK estimates that about 10% of all JFK long-term parking transactions are processed via the Smart app.

The obvious disadvantage to this app that immediately comes to mind is that it doesn't provide any other choices at all to the passenger. All mobile reservations are limited to SmartPark JFK’s own parking services exclusively. This isn't necessarily an onerous arrangement - users in a hurry can conveniently reserve their parking spot in a couple of minutes from any location as long as they carry their mobile phones with them. In comparison, it would require them 10 minutes minimum to wade through the different offers, if they’re able to see the sites of the other facilities providing parking at JFK Airport. The SmartPark JFK location in Queens has just recently been established and has some of the cheapest rates in the industry.

However, for those with the inclination, try to see the services and rates that the competing parking sites and hotels near the airport are offering. Whether you're using the Smart app or your old laptop for browsing, the goal is to locate the cheapest airport parking or the best bargains available - there’s plenty of these, as you probably know - and place your reservation beforehand. See what other users are posting about the facility you're planning to do business with. Apps and PCs are great tools when you're on the lookout for the best parking at JFK Airport but in the end, it's the feedback (pertaining to these facilities) of previous customers like you that really matter.

JFK Airport Parking - Why Airport Hotel Parking Is Your Most Budget-Friendly Alternative

JFK Airport shuttle service at the Marriott
Complimentary shuttle service at the Marriott Hotel for JFK passengers

With more than 20,000 JFK airport parking spots available, it's mind-boggling that a lot of passengers still suffer missed flights and other hassles simply for failing to get into a nearby parking facility on time. Such mishaps happen hundreds of times daily due, in part, to the sheer volume of passengers and vehicles coming to and leaving the airport at the same time. New York's Kennedy International Airport, after all, has been acknowledged as the 12th busiest airport worldwide.

However, with a little foresight and advance booking, you can effortlessly avoid such unfortunate situations. There are several JFK airport parking facilities to pick when you're doing your trip planning: central airport parking, off-airport private garages, JFK long-term airport parking, and hotel parking. In my opinion, the most economical and convenient choice is hotel parking - the so-called ’park, stay, and fly’ arrangement.

In comparison to parking at the central JFK airport parking facilities, hotel parking is surprisingly more cost-effective. I'm saying 'surprisingly' because most people associate hotels with expensive costs and such. If you're on the road for 10 days, for instance, you'll be set back about $180 for parking fees if you've used the slightly cheaper long-term airport parking location at Lefferts Blvd. If you happened to park at the central color-coded parking stations, the amount would be a staggering $1329! This last one is just an illustration, of course, no one on a budget can be that dense to park long-term at short-term rates.

In contrast, JFK parking at one of the airport hotels is priced anywhere between $200 to $240 for a room to sleep in the night before your flight - this usually comes with 10 days of complimentary parking. The amount you’re saving from the free parking is practically paying for the room, not to mention that you get to sleep and park in a 3-4 stars hotel with all the conveniences and amenities.

Honestly, the best motivation for you to select the hotel parking alternative can be summed up in one word - convenience. Consider this: if you live three hours away from the airport, you'll have to be up at 1 a.m. in order to be at the airport one hour before a 6 a.m. flight, and that's that’s only true if you're dropping off your car at the costly central parking stations. By the time you get off the plane, if it's a short 2-4 hour hop, you'll be light-headed and cranky for lack of sleep.

JFK Parking Lens on Squidoo

With the ’park, sleep, and fly’ option, you can drive to the airport hotel at any convenient time the night before the flight, have a restful sleep, wake up at 5:00 (for the 6am flight), be driven to the airport with full valet assistance - right to your terminal doorstep with hotel staff taking care of loading and unloading your luggage. The same privileged treatment awaits you when you come back from your trip - driving from the airport to the hotel to get your car.

Of course, some hotels may offer less services or will cost more than the average price brackets. Select the best deals: competition in this industry is quite intense and many hotels run very low-priced premium offers just to get your business. It’s always a win for travelers when there are price wars such as this, go ahead and book the best JFK airport parking package available online. Have a safe trip.

LaGuardia Airport Parking Map

LaGuardia Airport parking can be difficult, at times. Hopefully, this airport parking map can help you navigate and find the best parking locations at LGA. There are seven parking facilities owned and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which also operates LGA. There are also three large parking facilities just off the airport. Finding a good location at competitive rates shouldn't be much of a problem. To view the interactive map and see the actual rates for airport long-term parking at LGA, please visit the LaGuardia Airport parking resource tool at BestParking.com.

JFK Parking Options for the Rushed Traveler

JFK Terminal 1
JFK International Airport Terminal 1

Last year, more than 45 million travelers used John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), making it the 12th busiest airport in the planet. With over 20 million international travelers arriving at the airport in 2008, New York Kennedy is also the top international entry point in the U.S. With so many travelers departing or landing at the airport, finding the ideal JFK parking can sometimes be challenging.

The nearest locations, naturally, are in the airport-owned central parking facilities. The JFK parking lots and garages are color coded - Green parking (Terminals 1,2,3), Blue parking (Terminal 4), Yellow parking (Terminals 5 & 6), Orange parking (Terminal 7), Red (Terminals 8 & 9) - each location assigned to 1-3 airport terminals. Parking at these central locations could be a bit pricey: $3 for the first half hour, $6 for up to one hour, $3 for each additional thirty minutes (limited to $33 maximum for every one whole day period).

The airport long-term parking lot at S Conduit Ave may be a more practical choice at $18 for the first 24 hours and $6 for every 8 hours after the first day. However, for those who will be away for a number of days or a few weeks, the parking expenses could rapidly add up, it's more practical to consider parking alternatives at off-airport locations.

JFK Parking on HubPages

The next JFK parking alternative would be the privately-run 'off-airport' parking lots. There are a number of these locations only a few miles away from the airport like AirPark, Avistar, and SmartPark along Conduit Ave. These are excellent establishments boasting rave reviews by previous patrons. If you're particular about parking rates (and who shouldn't be, in this economy), these locations are your best option. They are open for both long-term and short-term parking, are served by frequently-running shuttle vehicles, are prepared to take care of disabled travelers, and most importantly, it costs way less to drop-off your vehicle in these lots than at the airport-owned facilities.

My preferred choice is the 'stay, park, and fly' JFK parking packages popular among the JFK airport hotels. If you think about it, hotel parking is hands down the most convenient and economical option. Visualize this, for instance: your residence is 2 hours away from Kennedy and you need to come in for a 6am early morning departure - you’ll most likely set the alarm for 2am to arrive at the airport at least 1 hour before your plane takes off. On the other hand, if you stay at any of the nearby hotels the night before, you'll have your full night sleep, and not get to your flight dizzy from lack of sleep. And here's the best part: you pay for the room for a relaxed one-night stay, you'll also get 7-10 days complimentary parking at the hotel’s parking lot. The savings you're making from the free parking is essentially paying for your room, plus you'll be pampered with full valet service and other amenities courtesy of the cutthroat competition these hotels are up against.

Apparently, each of these JFK parking choices has its own pluses and minuses. Just pick one that feels right according towhat you’re prepared to pay and the garage’s distance from the airport . Just make sure to plan beforehand and reserve your parking spot conveniently ahead of your scheduled departure. There are plenty of details to worry about when you’re on the road, JFK Airport parking need not be one of those.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey is one of the three major international airports operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, serving the metropolitan New York area. More than 35 million passengers passed through EWR in 2009. In terms of airport parking, there are over 17,000 spaces available at Newark Airport. This map features the main parking locations at EWR both for short-term and airport long-term parking. LaGuardia Airport Parking Options for the Rushed Gothamite

Marine Air Terminal at LGA
LaGuardia's Marine Air Terminal in 1974

LaGuardia Airport parking shouldn’t be difficult at all as long as you’ve done your homework to be familiar with the airport layout and have reserved your spot before the flight date. For starters, travelers at LaGuardia Airport can opt to park at any of the 7 airport parking sites available within the premises and at 3 large remote parking sites.

The airport-run parking facilities are located strategically near the terminals: site 1 (open lot) and site 2 (covered parking) are both located near the Central Terminal Building; site 3 (for LGA long-term parking) is just a few meters away from the CTB and the US Airways Terminal; parking sites 4 and 5 are located near the Delta Airways building; and finally, LaGuardia Airport parking lots 6 and 7 and the metered parking lot are close to the Marine Air Terminal.

LGA, sadly, has gained a reputation for frequent flight delays - it was nominated as the worst airport in the United States in 2009 because of this debacle - a complete reversal of a previously stellar image - in 1960, La Guardia was hailed as the best airport in the world by the flying community, at the time. Nonetheless, it's closer to Manhattan than JFK or Newark, which is the best reason for hurried New Yorkers to keep using it. With over 20,000,000 travelers passing through the airport yearly, LaGuardia Airport parking can be a bit of a hassle especially around the holidays.

LaGuardia Airport Parking on Hubpages

Short-term parking at LaGuardia Airport Lots 1,4,5,6, and 7 costs about $3 for the first 30 minutes and $3 for each succeeding hour after the initial 2 hours, with a 24-hour maximum of $33. Again, these are short-term parking rates and should only be considered if you are staying for no more than 1-2 hours at LaGuardia. These facilities allow for parking of up to 1 month, at the usual hourly rates!

Parking lot 3 is the only lot reserved for long-term LGA parking. The parking fees here are slightly lower at $66 for the first 48 hours and $6 for every succeeding 8 hours. These rates are closely similar to those in practically every large airport in the US, but it obviously would still be ridiculously expensive to park in this so-called long-term parking lot, if you're planning a month-long trip.

In my opinion, the only viable alternatives for long-term LaGuardia Airport parking are the ones offered by the off-airport parking establishments. These are efficient and topnotch service facilities operated by companies who specialize in the airport parking business. There's Avistar on 23rd Ave, Dollar airport parking on 94th St, and AirPark along Ditmars Blvd, to name a few. For a seven day trip, parking fees would set you back anywhere from $119 to $170 with AirPark offering the least expensive rate. Before you book your parking spot, make sure you have the most updated rates by visiting their site or by calling the facility. It might also help to ask them about valet or shuttle service, discounts, coupons, promotions, and reduced rates for some methods of payment.

If you’ve opted to fly through LGA for its close proximity to Manhattan, I suggest to make LaGuardia Airport parking a top item in your travel check list. Finding a great parking spot at LGA Airport is not difficult at all if you’re aware of your alternatives. Don’t forget to book your parking and have a hassle-free journey.

Newark Airport Parking: How To Save On Your Long-Term Airport Parking Fees

Newark Airport control tower

Newark Airport parking can be very frustrating to the unfortunate passenger because of the huge number of people arriving at the airport. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), along with JFK International Airport (New York Kennedy), and LaGuardia International Airport (LGA), comprises the largest airport system in the U.S. The LGA-JFK-EWR network, which serves the metropolitan New York-New Jersey area, is 2nd only to the London airport network worldwide, measured by the total number of travelers using the airports each year. Last year alone, over 35,000,000 passengers passed through Newark Liberty airport.

There are over 17,000 Newark Airport parking spots available to passengers, airline workers, and the public at large. These facilities include long-term, hourly, and daily parking, both inside the airport grounds and at off-airport locations. Parking at Newark Airport shouldn't be difficult, as long as you know your choices.

At $3 for the first half hour or $6 for every succeeding hour (maximum $33 everyday), hourly EWR parking is offered at Newark Airport parking lots A, B, and C. This is obviously the logical and most convenient choice - the lots are located just next to the main terminal - if you're just sending off or meeting someone and will be at the airport for no more than 1 or 2 hours at most.

Newark Airport Parking on Squidoo

For longer parking options, 3 nearby Newark Airport parking locations provide daily parking rates, that are significantly cheaper than the hourly fees above. Parking daily at lots P1 and P3 is $24. Daily parking at the EWR garage designated as P4 is slightly more expensive at $27. This is apparently a good option because of the convenient locations, especially if you'll be gone for no longer than 1 day or two.

Newark Airport long-term parking may be a great option for longer trips, such as a 7-day Europe vacation, for instance. EWR provides a long-term economy parking lot (P6), located at the airport’s northeast quadrant along Port St. Bringing your vehicle here costs around $18 per day, which is quite frankly still expensive, especially if you're planning a 2-3 weeks travel schedule.

Watch: Parking at Newark Airport Video

Another alternative, if you're trying to save as much off your airport parking costs, would be the off-airport parking locations. There are a number of very accessible private parking facilities that you might want to consider, such as the Avistar and FastTrack locations along Carnegie Ave and the Airpark and Avistar facilities along McClellan St. The majority are well-maintained parking lots and garages serviced by regular shuttle transportation running in 10-15 minutes interval, have well-trained personnel, are ready to assist handicapped passengers, and provide 24 hours access with roving security units. FastTrack's Sky Park lot has the most competitive rates, but you can also check the individual lots for discounts, coupons, and free parking promotions which may be granted to frequent travelers every week or so.

In any case, check and confirm the rates before booking your parking online. If you can, get the details about their rate structure, weekday promotions, security arrangements, valet service, shuttle availability, etc. It would also help if you can read customer ratings of the establishment - of course, the best source of information about the service they provide will be the the travelers who have parked there previously.

Once you've picked your Newark Airport parking facility, remember to place your reservation before your actual flight. Jetting to a business or pleasure destination is always something that most people, even the most jaded of passengers, look forward to. Don't let problems about airport parking ruin the experience for you.
